I have “self-care” days to get me through the semesters, and I understand the importance of a big bowl of chocolate ice cream, but my birthday is the one day a year when I go out of my way to treat myself like the princess I am. I made other plans to celebrate with friends and boyfriends and family, but on my actual day of birth I prefer to be left alone.
It was a beautiful 80 degrees all day, and I felt comfortable walking around in wide legged pants. I tucked a simple white silk button up into my voluminous pants, and finished my look with my favorite Valentino booties and pink sunglasses. I wasn’t wearing a princess ballgown, but I felt like a million bucks.
I got a mani-pedi early in the afternoon, and I made sure I got to sit in one of the chairs where the back massager works. Afterwards, I got a box of macaroons from Laduree to take with me to lunch. I had some time to kill before my reservation at 4pm, so I stopped into Bergdorf Goodman to see if I liked anything in the sales section. Nothing really struck me, so I made an IOU for myself to use another day.
At 4pm, I had a reservation for 1 at The Champagne Bar at The Plaza Hotel. I ordered a chips and dip, a glass of rose, and a cocktail called the “Air Mail” and enjoyed my macaroons at a seat by the window. The food and atmosphere were great, and the company was even better.
