The legendary Cady Heron once said, “Halloween is the one night a year when a girl can dress like a total slut and no other girls can say anything about it.” Like The Plastics and the rest of the girls from Northshore High School, I fully support a young woman’s decision to unapologetically put on a pair of fishnet stockings and loosen up for a weekend. But let’s be real: for half of the country Halloween is always a particularly brisk weekend, and being slutty and being warm don’t always fall hand in hand. Here are some 2016 approved costumes you can be cute and cozy in this weekend:
Eleven from Stranger Things
Since its premier this past August, Stranger Things has become one of the most watched Netflix original series ever. Stranger Things takes place in November, so cast stays is pretty bundled up while battling the Demagorgon. The most iconic character from the series, Eleven (El for short), wears a memorable pink dress, blue jacket, and white tube socks in over half of the episodes. Between the jacket and the thick socks, you won’t have a problem battling the 45 degree night, and you’ll be instantly recognizable.

Game of Thrones
Most of the women on Game of Thrones wear similar silhouettes in distinct dress and hair color combinations. Wearing a tight, cleavage revealing top helps to balance out a full skirt, and you can wear a pair of fleece lined leggings under your maxi skirt and no one will be the wiser. You can also do a couples costume with John Snow, which basically requires head to toe black and a gigantic fur coat.

Rey from Star Wars: The Force Awakens
The latest installment of the popular Star Wars franchise features a strong independent woman that don’t need no patriarchic norms. In order to protect herself against harsh desert storms and the deadly male gaze, Rey wears multiple layers of neutral colored fabric draped head to toe. Her look can be recreated with tan leggings, a tan shirt, tall boots, and an old cut up sheet. If you really want to go all out, find a large fallen tree branch and spray paint it brown as a weapon to defeat the Dark Side of Halloween aka Frat boys dressed as Donald Trump.
