First Impressions

After two internships and watching my friends work at dozens of other companies throughout college, I have a general idea of what is appropriate office attire in the fashion industry (Spoiler Alert: You can make friends without getting the Chanel boots). Since this industry is full of creative minds, I have seen corner office executives wearing leather jackets and stilettos and graphic artists in the same office wearing t-shirts and Vans, so I know whatever I wear probably won’t generate a visit to HR.

But still, it’s nice to fit in. I knew Woolmark has a very small US team, and I did not want to risk looking out of place. For my first day of my new internship at The Woolmark Company, I decided to play it safe: I wore a cowl neck sweater tucked into dark wash jeans, with a black belt and textured ankle boots. My sweater (made out of wool, of course) was more polished than your average H&M cardigan, and adding a belt to my dark wash jeans helped me look and feel put together. I did not know what my day-to-day would look like, so I didn’t want to wear heeled shoes and risk being on my feet all day. Overall, I looked just fine.

Here are some pieces that are great for work:

Topshop Blazer // OAK Pants // Theory Sweater // Cole Haan Oxfords
