During my unemployment period this year, it was really easy to spend an entire day in sweatpants when all I was doing was sending out job applications and only leaving the house to get drive thru Starbucks. I enjoyed everything about my comfort at home, but I missed the opportunities I had in the city to get glamed up. I used the holiday season as an excuse to go all out with my hair and makeup and head into Manhattan.
I bought this velvet blazer at the end of the summer as a post-grad gift to myself, and I knew it would look great with the black velvet leggings I already own. The red and black buffalo check sweater I am wearing is actually from Gap Kids-- their X-Large sweaters are the perfect oversized crop for my small frame. I finished my Christmas outfit with a sharp pair of shoes and sparkly eye shadow that matched the gleam of the Radio City ornaments. It felt really good to look like I just walked out of a holiday catalog, and I highly recommend throwing on a bold lip or fun shoes to cure any holiday blues you may have this season.
Here are some velvet blazers you will still love after New Year:
