Congratulations! If you are reading this, that means you made it through 2017 alive-- and I genuinely think that is an accomplishment worth celebrating. As I talked about in my Thanksgiving post, 2017 dragged me through some serious battlegrounds. I have no reason to believe 2018 will be any kinder to me, but I am ready to charge into the new year Wonder Woman style.
Here are some of the personal battles I want to win in 2018:
Treat My Body Like the Temple It Is
This is an extension of last year's resolutions and a blanket mantra I want to follow in 2018. Now that second puberty is only a few short years away, I want to make a serious effort this year to getting into good physical and mental habits. This includes (but is not limited to):
Drink 48oz of water every day
Wean myself off of processed sugar
Establish a regular sleep schedule
Know that it is okay to get the professional help I need
Actually follow the directions those professionals give me
Floss
Dream Medium
For the second half of 2017, I spent a lot of the year kicking and screaming that my life was suddenly not going according to plan. I, apparently, was not supposed to walk into a corporate 9-5 career a month after graduation, and I am learning that it is okay. I am not going to throw in the towel or shrug my shoulders and say "everything happens for a reason," but in 2018 I want to exhale and take things as they come. I know the entrepreneurial spirit takes many forms, and I am looking forward to embracing the little things that I can be doing like freelance writing, temp positions, and local part time jobs that have potential to grow.
Keep Learning
After over 15 years of school, I felt burnt out by the time I was handed my diploma. I spent a lot of 2017 taking a "mental detox" by letting myself spend hours watching mindless YouTube videos and embracing the endless supply of Buzzfeed quizzes. While it was nice to turn my brain off for a while, I don't want to be one of the 30% of Americans who never read another book after college. In 2018, I want to take advantage of services like SkillShare, Duolingo, and the free eBook section on my Kindle Fire to continue broadening my mind.
Be There For You
I am going into 2018 with a support system I have not had in a long time. I truly appreciate the love that I have received over the past year, and I want to show my gratitude to those who care about me. If there is a New Years Resolution that you are doubtful about maintaining, please know that I am here to stay in on Friday night to save money, be your gym buddy, and be your positive reinforcement. In 2018, I want to share more videos you produce, buy more from your Etsy shop, and go to more of your shows. So please, invite me!!
